Write Up! is a peer support group for writers of all levels of experience and skill held on the last Wednesday of each month from 1-3pm. We are predominantly for those people who live with a disability. We write and read our work on the day, and work on our own projects in the group setting. We encourage people to self-manage the impact of disability while advocating for our members in mainstream writing organisations and settings. It is a friendly social day. Carers are welcome. It is free to attend.

About Kerri Shying
About Kerri Shying
The group is facilitated by Kerri Shying, an experienced writer and poet. Kerri Shying was first published in Tharunka and Billy Blue in the 1980’s then Satellite, Users News, and other Sydney mags and journals. She published the Literary zine “Blanche” for surrealist art and writing in the ‘80’s, outing Adam Cullen as a cartoonist, among other folly. Years of publishing short stories, writing the Christmas Carol for Users’ News Prison Issue, dramaturgy at the Belvoir downstairs and drug user peer ‘independent scholar” and sex worker academic writing make up the grab bag of a wide ranging work life. Kerri has three of the Roland Robinson Awards for her short stories and poem, and was recently third in the Hunter Writer’s Centre Disability “Inclusion” Award. She is the Autocrat of the Republic of Gimptopia where her dog Max serves as the first dog.

Workshop Schedule

Write Up! is a free workshop held at Hudson Street Hum on the last Wednesday of each month from 1pm to 3pm.
