Join us on a special journey exploring the beauty, vibrancy and luminosity of watercolour.
In this 4 week course Susan Porteous will provide you with step by step demonstrations and practical guidance to enable you to discover the fascinating versatility of watercolour through a range of techniques and processes.
Taking inspiration from Still Life and Landscape subjects, you will:
- explore preliminary pencil drawing and composition
- ways of looking and learning, how to interpret the subject
- how to experiment with the use of different brushes for application of washes and mark-making
- choice of paper
- choice of colour
- process of layering tonal washes of colour and working with wet-on–dry and wet-on-wet techniques.
This course will provide you with the knowledge and techniques to enjoy your creative process and build your skills and confidence to successfully create your own individual artworks.
This course is ideal for people new to watercolour through to those looking to refresh or further develop their skills.

Susan Porteous is a visual artist based in Newcastle with a particular passion for watercolour painting. She has a postgraduate Fine Arts degree from the Slade School in London, a Diploma in Community Services gained at TAFE NSW and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment . Susan has extensive experience running arts programmes in Newcastle. Susan is a passionate advocate for people following their goals and dreams.
