Join experienced artist and educator Michelle Teear to explore an ancient medium in this special 4-week course. Egg tempera is a beautiful translucent viscous paint that holds exciting potential for contemporary painters. It is the original board painting medium and pre-dates oil paint. Tempera’s unique qualities sit between watercolour, acrylic and oil paint.

Michelle will lead students over four weeks in how to make and apply tempera. Learn how to make this safe and healthy archival paint. You’ll be guided on how to apply tempera in layered translucent to opaque painting and explore it’s potential for texture and fine detailed marks. You will explore a grounding in design, colour and working between abstraction to representational work using an intuitive approach. The class will offer guidance through structured exercises and support to develop your own personal practice and style. Suitable for beginner to experienced painters.

You will learn:
• How to make egg tempera paint, including a variety of vehicles
• How to choose and prepare a substrate for painting
• Special techniques for working in egg tempera
• Structured exercises in approaches to painting
• Paint supplies and one plywood board provided

Please note: due to allergies, please refrain from wearing perfume or cologne, deo is ok. Do not bring solvents for clean up, safe soaps provided.
