Sashiko is a beautiful old form of embroidery from Japan and a wonderful introduction to the craft of hand stitching.

In this workshop Vicki, from Bonsai Woman, will teach you to stitch a classic myozashi pattern with a maple leaf motif onto a gorgeous 100% linen tea towel. You will have the option to stitch with some very special sashiko thread that Vicki has dyed with kakishibu (Japanese persimmon tannin). During the workshop you'll cover:

• stitching technique with a long sashiko needle and Japanese leather thimble
• preparing your threads
• tracing out and designing your stitching
• beginning and ending without a knot
• maintaining correct tension in your work

You will also learn about the history of sashiko and the important message it has for today’s “fast fashion” world. All materials will be provided. All welcome and no embroidery or craft experience necessary.
