Join award-winning portrait artist and educator, Jane Lander, in a 4 week course of Portrait drawing for teens. This is an amazing opportunity to work with an exhibiting artist who has just won the Newcastle Club Foundation Art Prize 2022 with a portrait.
During the course students will develop drawing techniques including pencil shading, proportions of a head, how to draw portrait features such as starting with the shape of the head and building up linear and tonal dynamics expressing the features. Observation of shapes and the identification of the unique character of each person will be explored so as to capture likeness.Students will study the portrait from a range of photographs supplied but are also encouraged to bring photos for a portrait of their choice - it could be a family member or someone you admire. Students will work on an extended drawing with the option to exhibit their work at the John Hunter Hospital as part of the Arts for Health initiative.
These classes welcome all skill levels and are suitable for students from Year 6 upwards. Class sizes are kept small to ensure one-on-one time and guidance from Jane.
