Join us for a transformative four-week series exploring the art of portrait drawing with each session led by a different artist. Whether you're a beginner looking to build skills or an experienced artist eager for fresh inspiration, this series offers a dynamic and enriching experience.
Each week, a different artist will bring their unique perspective, techniques, and style to the workshop. From realism to expressive contemporary approaches, you'll gain a well-rounded understanding of portraiture through hands-on instruction and personalised feedback. Participants will explore a variety of mediums such as charcoal, graphite, ink, and pastels, encouraging experimentation and growth.
Throughout the series, you will be encouraged to develop your own voice, while learning to observe more deeply and translate what you see into your artwork. By the end of the four weeks, you’ll leave with new techniques, and a deeper confidence in your portrait-making skills.
All materials will be provided, and each session will include demonstrations, hands-on practice, one-on-one guidance and one session with a life model. Beginners and seasoned artists alike are welcome!

PETER LANKAS has a Masters degree in Fine Art from the University of Newcastle and over thirty years experience in the process of drawing and painting. He currently teaches painting and drawing at the Newcastle Art School (TAFE) and regularly conducts workshops throughout the Hunter region and the Central coast.
PABLO TAPIA has a Masters in Fine Arts and further studies in Renaissance methodologies and Australian tonal impressionists. He has been a regular finalist in the Kilgour and Doug Moran Portrait Prize.
CHERIE DALEY is a practicing figurative artist and visual arts teacher. She has been a finalist in several prestigious awards including the Portia Geach Memorial Award and the Mosman Art Prize.
Workshop Schedule
This is a 4 week course held on Monday evenings, 6.30 to 8.30pm from 27th July until 17th August. The sessions are guided by a different artist each week.
