Do you ever have a experimental playful curiosity towards the colours and textures all around us in nature? In this Intro to Natural Dyeing: Resources & Rituals Jo from Inside Jo.B will give you the opportunity to learn how to playfully and respectfully use what's in our natural environment to create colour on fabric and paper.

In this workshop Jo from Inside Jo.B Textiles Studio with share what she has learned over the past 5 years from working with a range of natural products to create her one of a kind dyed fashion pieces. Using kitchen waste, local leaves, bark, herbs, branches, earth/rocks with foraged and found metals with other natural dye materials to make marks and cook colours onto fabrics.

The workshop cost is $120. Jo will give $40 from each booked ticket to the Animal Rescue Collective. Numbers are limited so get in quickly for this intimate, exclusive workshop which will give you new skills to apply at home.

NSIDE Jo.B is the Textile Design Studio and work of Joanne Broederlow. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, raised there and in Sydney, Australia. Joanne's German Samoan heritage and her family, influence her Textile Art and Design. She studied Fashion and Construction after graduating High School at East Sydney TECH Fashion Studio.

After having children, two who suffered from eczema, she looked into the benefits of Organic Cotton clothes and cloth nappies. In 2005 she started the business of ethical baby and children's products online which progressed to her own brand 'Imp'ish', where she designed her own fabrics for the clothing range. Through this process Jo has become a keen supporter of ethical and traditional practices of natural material eco dyed and printed.

Workshop Schedule

This is a 3 hour workshop.

~ Avocado Vat, Onion Skin Vat, Eucalyptus Vat, Madder Root, Rich Rusty Tannin so much more!
~ Demonstrations on how to create vats, scouring, mordants, water collecting and natural dye, mark making with intention and honour respecting natural resources.
~ Rituals and ceremony with intentions around gathering foraging to help with regrowth and nurturing.
~ 4 x upcycled cotton pieces for experimenting can be used for a table setting or patch work plus silk pieces for tests.

What to bring
~ comfortable clothes, apron if you wish and covered shoes as we will be cooking colours in pots/vats
~ glass jars for take home dyes for solar dye
~ small swatches you wish to test and experiment with all natural materials please (no bigger than 40cm thanks)
