Join us for a unique creative experience learning the art of fine crochet tapestry. Over four Wednesday evenings, led by textile artist, Maggie Hensel-Brown, you will learn how to design, draw, and create a gridded crochet patterned tapestry.
Using contrasting colours and simple stitches, you will make a delicate sampler using a combination of crochet stitches.
This workshop series is suitable for all skill levels from absolute beginners to more advanced crocheters. Come along and meet like-minded people and enjoy the art of slowing down with a mindful and creative practice.
About Maggie Hensel-Brown
Maggie Hensel-Brown is a Newcastle based artist, working predominantly in needle lace techniques. She has travelled and studied needle lace in England, Italy, the United States, the Netherlands, and all around Australia.
Her lace takes techniques from various needle traditions to create contemporary imagery. Inspired by classical pictorial needle lace panels, Hensel-Brown’s work tells stories of the most mundane parts of her life: experiencing the highs and lows of the contemporary world.
Her works have been exhibited widely throughout Australia and the United States.
Hensel-Brown also teaches regular classes in Sydney and online and is a frequent educator and panelist at lace making conferences, most recently the Festival of Lace in Sydney, the Doily Free Zone digital conference in 2021, and Threads of Power at the Bard Graduate Center in New York.
